In this course, students will be introduced to the language of visual design and drawing, in order to gain an understanding of the elements and principles of design. Through placement and interaction, students will examine how visual communication is contextualized in multiple ways. By using drawing as a tool for illustrating the elements and principles of design, students will develop practical skills and competencies required for entry into the creative industries to solve visual design problems.
DMD 1113 Photography and Image Making (2-2-3)
This course introduces key concepts and techniques in professional photography, emphasizing camera operation, image composition, and photo editing. Students develop practical skills through hands-on activities, using digital software to enhance their work and create a personal portfolio. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to produce visually compelling photographs and express their creativity through the art of photography.
DMD 1123 Introduction to Media Technology (2-2-3)
Introduces the fundamentals of vector and raster graphics, focusing on industry-standard tools, techniques, and processes. Students use professional software to develop technical skills and create digital media projects. By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in digital design, preparing them for professional creative work.
DMD 1133 Digital Storytelling (2-2-3)
This course introduces essential elements of digital storytelling, emphasizing narrative development, scriptwriting, sound design, text creation, and multimedia integration. Students will explore storytelling across multiple platforms, focusing on practical application. They will create digital storytelling projects that demonstrate cohesive narratives, continuity, and strong production values while critically analyzing their own work and the work of others.
DMD 1203 AI in Digital Media (2-2-3)
Introduces essential elements of artificial intelligence (AI) in digital media with an emphasis on its applications in production, distribution, and consumption. Focuses on utilizing cutting-edge AI technologies to enhance digital media processes. Students engage in theoretical learning and practical exercises to understand how AI is transforming the digital media landscape and critique their own work and the work of others.

Introduces essential elements of media literacy with an emphasis on accessing, analyzing, evaluating, and creating media messages across various platforms. Focuses on the historical and conceptual framework of media literacy and the role of media in shaping and reflecting social realities. Students examine media production processes, develop critical thinking skills, and critique their own work and the work of others to navigate today’s complex media environment.
DMD 2313 Digital Media in Arabic (2-2-3)
Introduces essential elements of digital media in the Arabic language with an emphasis on researching, writing, and presenting. Focuses on creating a range of digital content, including news and magazine articles, as well as written, visual, and multimedia texts. Students produce content in Arabic and explore digital media strategies that support success in today’s diverse business landscape. Students critique their own work and the work of others.
DMD 2423 Media Production (2-2-3)
Introduces essential elements of interview and single-camera video production with an emphasis on framing, continuity, and camera operation. Applies techniques such as interviewing, vox pop, and fieldwork, including lighting, location filming, recce preparation, and editing. Students create video productions featuring interviews and critique their own work and the work of others.
DMD 2433 Sustainable Design (2-2-3)
This course introduces essential elements of design for public narratives with an emphasis on sustainability, social issues, and community needs. Focuses on analyzing global environmental, cultural, and societal challenges to inspire, motivate, and incite action. Students create visual graphics that interpret complex sustainability data through interdisciplinary design briefs and critique their own work and the work of others.
DMD 2503 Diploma Industry Project (0-4-3)
Introduces students to the process of planning, developing, and delivering a major industry-focused project as a final project to their diploma studies. This course offers an alternative pathway to a traditional degree by emphasizing hands-on, practical experience through industry problem-solving. Students will collaborate with industry partners or simulate professional environments to apply their skills in research, design, production, and communication.

In addition to exploring the company's background, digital media assets and production current issues, stakeholder engagement. Students will work collab at an employer's workplace and participate in scenarios and simulations.

DMD 3033 Fashion Communication (2-2-3)
Introduces an understanding of fashion, communication and social identity related to brands. Students will be introduced to the history of fashion and its profound impact on culture, society, and the global economy. The course explores the complex world of the fashion industry, emphasizing the importance of public relations, branding, and global content creation within the fashion industry. Through this course, students will gain a deeper understanding of fashion communication and how it plays a critical role in shaping the industry and its social agenda

DMD 3043 Environmental Design (2-2-3)
In this course, students will analyse the use of emerging technologies in environmental graphics, learning to design, develop, and produce environmental graphics projects using technologies such as AR, VR, and projection mapping. Additionally, the course will emphasize signage design for diverse environments, including public spaces, businesses, and cultural institutions. Students will gain insights into various signage types, materials, and design considerations, while also acquiring knowledge about the principles of wayfinding and navigation tools to create signage.

Students will learn how to identify and target potential clients, develop portfolios and to navigate legal and ethical issues such as copyright laws and client relationships. Students will be introduced to the concepts of innovation, collaborative teams, and entrepreneurial thinking.

Introduces the skills and strategies to create impressive portfolios and deliver impactful presentations that resonate with their audience.
